Ubisoft Reportly Launching San Francisco-Based Watch Dogs 2 Later This Year

Reports have emerged Ubisoft is going to fill up the gaping hole in its Q4 2016 line-up with the launch of a Watch Dogs sequel. Ah Ubisoft, I knew there was a catch when I heard you were taking a year off with Assassin's Creed.

Watch Dogs 2 will apparently switch up the setting from Chicago to the steep streets of San Francisco. If Bullitt and Driver have taught me anything, it’s that San Francisco is just a ready made package for car chases, made all the better with hacking abilities. We’ve known for some time now that Ubisoft has plans for Watch Dogs, so it comes as little surprise to see Watch Dogs 2 talked about. If the rumours are true, then we can expect a Watch Dogs 2 reveal in the first half of this year, with a launch in late 2016. We originally saw a Ubisoft programmer list Watch Dogs 2 on his online CV, while Ubi Montreal’s creative director Jonathan Morin has admitted they have big plans for the franchise.

"We're at that stage now. We're trying crazy stuff. We're trying not to fall into that trap of, 'Oh we've tried that in the past, it's not going to work',” said Morin. “It’s the beginning of something that is quite unique and could push the industry forward.”
In many ways Watch Dogs is in a much better starting point, so it’ll be interesting to see Ubisoft given the opportunity to expand on the great ideas they had. Aiden Pearce was an awful protagonist, so it’ll be good to see the back of him, with a fresh start in a new city. Running over what Ubisoft has planned for 2016 it makes for impressive reading if these Watch Dogs 2 rumours are true. Far Cry Primal is out next month, while we’re expecting TrackMania Turbo and For Honor soon, as well as The Division, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Hmm, best start saving, Ubisoft games certainly aren’t cheap these days.
