RollerCoaster Tycoon World Delayed Until 2016 Following Closed Beta Issues

We haven’t seen a great deal of it in recent months so this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, but Atari has made it known that RollerCoaster Tycoon World won’t make its December launch. But not to worry, it'll be out 2016!

The long-awaited new outing in the theme park management franchise recently ran the first of two planned beta weekends. Following feedback from the community, developer Nvizzio Creations took the decision to push its launch back to strike out some issues raised. The first beta weekend focused exclusively on the coaster building tools, but despite its pre-release nature still allowed user reviews on Steam. This has caused RollerCoaster Tycoon World to have already garnered a ‘Mixed’ response months before its launch, which will do it no favours.

“A preview like this is an opportunity to showcase one main feature, in this case the coaster builder, and gather feedback,” wrote Nvizzio of the beta weekend. “It is a way to test game elements and get some portions of the game in your hands, but this also means that the game you preview is neither complete nor final and should not be treated as such. Going forward, we will make sure to label what is and is not final during our previews in order to properly set expectations.”

Scanning the Steam reviews it seems like plenty did treat it like a final product. Still, what’s done is done, and Nvizzio’s just got to make sure it’s tip top for launch now. Following feedback from the community, Nvizzio is adding predefined lines and curves to the coaster builder, like those seen in the older RollerCoaster Tycoon games. There will still be the option for a fully-customisable 3D spline-based coaster editor, but the presets should make things simpler. They’re also adding heat maps to highlight potential problem areas on a coaster build so you can see at a glance where it’s going wrong.
