Minecraft Listed For Wii U Release

Mojang's sandbox survival and crafting sensation, Minecraft, may be set for release on Nintendo's Wii U, according to a listing by European ratings board PEGI.

The listing, which was spotted by NeoGAF user HypnoDarkrai, states Minecraft Wii U Edition will be released this year. Neither Nintendo, Mojang, nor its parent company, Microsoft, have officially declared the release. Nintendo has planned to have a Direct event today (November 12) to offer updates on upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS releases. The stream is will take place at 2 PM PDT (10 PM GMT/5 PM EDT). It may be that the announcement is made during this. As with all previous Nintendo Directs, the stream will be available to watch on Nintendo's own website and on Twitch. GameSpot will also host a live stream of it and provide in-depth coverage.
Microsoft spent $2.5 billion to buy Mojang and the Minecraft property in September, 2014. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, its in-development augmented reality headset, HoloLens, was a major part of the decision to acquire the studio and its game.

“Let's have a game that, in fact, will fundamentally help us change new categories," Nadella said. “HoloLens was very much in the works [when Microsoft announced the deal last year], and we knew it."
