Deadpool 2 has Been Confirmed With Ryan Reynolds

It's not really surprising, but speaking today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Fox confirmed that a sequel is indeed in the works to 2016 R-rated smash hit Deadpool. Co-chair Stacey Snider confirmed that star, Ryan Reynolds, and director Tim Miller will be making a return to the sequel, according to Deadline. It was already basically confirmed that Reynolds would return, but until now, it was unclear if Miller, who made his directorial debut with Deadpool,. would also be back.

Deadpool was a surprising success for Fox, having made more than $750 million to date against a reported budget of $58 million, according to Box Office Mojo. It's the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history at the worldwide box office, pushing The Matrix Reloaded ($742 million) down to No. 2. Given the huge success of Deadpool, it might have been assumed that producers would seek a higher budget to make a more spectacular sequel. This may not be the case, however, according to writer Paul Wernick, who is also returning for the follow-up.
"We don't want $150 million to go make the next movie; that's not Deadpool," Wernick said earlier this year. "Deadpool doesn't lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth; that's just not Deadpool. So we're happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don't wanna blow this next one out."
Though the production budget for Deadpool 2 may not be much larger than the first one, Fox will reportedly pay Reynolds "significantly" more than the $2 million base pay he got for the first one.
