DirectX 12 Support Coming For Just Cause 3 According To Microsoft

Affirming the rumours going around for quite some time now, a new trailer from Microsoft has revealed DirectX 12 support is coming to Just Cause 3. Reports have been flying around of DX12 support ever since Avalanche’s open-world romp launched back in December, prompted once more by Square Enix making an appearance at GDC later this month to talk about the new graphics API.

The news comes via a ‘Power of DX12’ trailer from Microsoft which, along with Just Cause 3, also demonstrates Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Fable Legends, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, Quantum Break, Ashes of the Singularity and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and King of Wushu. Despite DirectX 12 support arrived alongside Windows 10 way back in July last year, but we’ve seen precious few games take advantage of its capabilities. I’m not really getting what Microsoft is trying to indicate with the sliders in the video, other than applying a colour filter and more natural lighting, but DX12’s benefits include CPU optimisation, reduced latency, smoother frame rates and better performance. Which can’t be bad can it, but the sky-high system requirements revealed for DirectX 12 titles so far say otherwise. Time will tell, but for now we’re just itching to get our hands on some of these games so we can put them to the test. Hopefully we haven't got too long to wait until the Just Cause 3 update drops and it's going to be interesting to see just what impact this has on performance.
