The Division Story Details and More Revealed

The Division releases this March, but not much has been known about the game's story up until this point. Now, we know that the story will be split into three threads that will give you different perspectives on the state of its post-apocalypse.

Xbox On interviewed Ubisoft Massive associate creative director Julian Gerighty about the world of The Division. Gerighty explained how The Division is going to be divided into three separate threads, each telling their own story.

"Every mission that you do is going to be linked to one of those story threads and is going to give you a little piece of the puzzle," Gerighty explained. "Once you've completed all the missions in that story thread you'll have all the pieces of the puzzle that you'll put together and get an extra piece that will give you a different perspective on the story."

Gerighty also talked about what each thread will be about, revealing new details about the game's story. One story thread is about the virus: who created it, why, and if it can be cured. The second revolves around the factions: how they started, and how you're going to take them on. The last thread is about restoring the infrastructure and something else that Gerighty said he "can't talk about too much."
It's been revealed prior that the virus that plagues New York City was transmitted through handling money. That's why the game is set around Christmas as a lot of money is being transferred between people and stores, especially on Black Friday.

It was revealed in the interview that the Dark Zone, the game's PVP battles, will not feature any loading or matchmaking and will instead be seamless with the rest of the game. Killing other agents will highlight you to other players for a period of time, while killing several will place a bounty on your head.

Also mentioned was the fact that players will be able to experience The Division by themselves or online with other players.
