How Often Do You Buy A Game Outside Your Preferred Genre

We’ve all got our favourite genres. They suit our preferences down to the ground, and even a middling game of that type is enough to keep us interested. Typically when buying games,  it’s all too easy to stick with what you know and love. RPG fans will always be on the lookout for the next Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy, rather than Project CARS and Street Fighter. That said, sometimes it’s nice to head further afield, to see just how green the grass is on the other side.


Trying out entirely new experiences you aren’t familiar with is a fascinating thing, even if you don’t always end up buying a game you love. I thought I’d hate Football Manager for instance, having next to no interest in either football, or management. Merging the two it seems is a recipe for success, because I fell in love with the intoxicating feeling of winning. That said, there's enough games out there to satisfy even the most niche tastes, and if you want to exclusively play sci-fi themed platformers, or kart-racing games, or jokey simulators riffing on their terribleness, then there's all that for you and more.  My point being, it can be great to get a wider insight on the gaming world and buy a game outside of your preferred genre.
