The Witcher 3 Hearts Of Stone DLC Sends Taxman After Players Who Used Money Exploits

CD Projekt RED’s work with The Witcher 3 continues to get more astounding with each passing minute. In the original game there were a number of exploits that could allow players to harvest pearls and hides almost indefinitely, trading in them in for vast amounts of cash. This exploit didn’t go unnoticed by the dastardly folks at CD Projekt RED.

Players who’ve picked up the new Hearts of Stone DLC and tried to fool the system previously have been paid a visit by none other than the taxman. He shows up unexpectedly and confronts Geralt about his earnings, asking a few pertinent questions to see just how much unclaimed cash he’s been raking in during his monster hunting travels. The taxman explicitly mentions a number of schemes that Geralt may be involved in, including an infamous exploit involving slaughtering cows by the dozen in White Orchard in order to harvest rawhide. Players could then meditate for an hour and the bovine horde would respawn, repeating the whole process again.
He'll ask you the following questions:

"Have you at any time engaged in the wholesale trade of rawhide in the White Orchard area?"
"During the current fiscal year, have you engaged in the acquisition of bivalves with the express intention of selling the pearls therein?"
The tax man even cites a specific statute: "Whoever purchases goods at an unseemly low price to take advantage of the seller's ignorance shall be subject to a fine equaling 200 percent of the earnings from any such transaction."
Amusingly he also suggests Geralt has been strolling into people’s houses and nicking anything that isn’t nailed down. If you’re feeling particularly devious you can attempt to lie your way out of situation, and protesting your innocence even nets you a gift for your angelical ways.
