Arekkz Gaming, a YouTube channel with more than 100,000 subscribers, appears to be among the first to have made the discovery. A video below explains in more detail what players encounter if they search for the cassette player. This does not mark the first reference to P.T. in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. A year ago it was discovered that the horror game's iconic ghost, Lisa, could be deployed as an inflatable decoy.
P.T. launched on PlayStation 4 in August 2014. It was a free game demo that, when completed, revealed a world-premiere trailer for Silent Hills, which at the time was a new project in development at Kojima Productions. However, Konami elected to cancel the Silent Hills project. In the aftermath, it also removed P.T. from Sony's servers. These events came in the wake of a well-known fallout between Kojima Productions and Konami.
