Game Reviews: Until Dawn

Until Dawn:

Until Dawn is an upcoming adventure survival horror video game being developed by Supermassive Games and set to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It
was originally scheduled to be released on the PlayStation 3 and feature PlayStation Move support, but in August 2014, the game was reintroduced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. It is set to be released worldwide in August 25, 2015.

It’s a story about eight high school friends (ashley, Chris, Emily, Jessica, Josh, Matt, Mike, and Sam) who head up to a remote cabin in the mountains for a night of debauchery. They’re mostly obnoxious stereotypes, from the blonde cheerleader to the promiscuous jock. Their vacation just so happens to take place on the anniversary of the mysterious death of two close friends(twin sisters Hannah and Beth). As you’d imagine, it’s not long before things get spooky; a trip to the basement to fix the electricity turns into a terrifying chase, while some fun with a Ouija board brings a haunting message. There always seems to be an axe-wielding maniac in the periphery of your vision.

You’ll control each of the eight characters at various points throughout the story, and much of your time will be spent navigating dialogue choices and making quick decisions. Moments of action are relegated to relatively simple quick time events, where you have to hit a button at just the right time to jump over a ledge or slip away from a crazed killer. Each playthrough will last about nine hours in length and the game mechanics will feature a new in-game system called the "Butterfly Effect" in which any choice of action by the player may have major unforeseen consequences.  The PS4 game is played with a regular Dualshock controller, though there are still some motion controls thrown in; the controller’s touchpad can be used to flip through pages of a book or swipe to unlock a phone. Its characters look realistic and the surrounding  areas are detailed. This game is only going to be made available on Playstation 4 (why not include Playstation 3,  Xbox or PC??
