Scalebound is an upcoming action role-playing video game developed by Platinum Games and published by Microsoft Studios, currently scheduled for release in late 2016 exclusively for Xbox One.

In this game, players assume control of Drew, who is accompanied with a dragon called Thuban. Players can use a variety of weapons to defeat enemies, as well as issuing commands to the dragon, which assists players during battles. Unlike other games developed by PlatinumGames, the game puts more focuses on graphical qualities and the role-playing aspect of the game instead of action.
Scalebound is an action role-playing video game played in a third-person perspective, in which players assume control of Drew, as he progresses through the world of Draconis. Players are bonded to and accompanied by a dragon called Thuban, who can breathe out fire and assist players throughout the game. Thuban is controlled by artificial intelligence, but players can give commands to the dragon when performing attacks. The dragon can be ridden, though not in the beginning of the game, and its shape and appearance can be customized. Players can also upgrade its abilities by using the gems dropped by defeated enemies.
In addition, players are equipped with melee weapons such as swords and ranged weapons like explosive arrows. These weapons will eventually become degraded and lose their durability during combat. The game does not feature any crafting system, but players can pick up different weapons throughout the game. As a result of the bond between the two, Thuban's death will cause Drew to die as well and vice versa. When encountering large enemies, players can swing to them and climb on them to perform attacks. Drew also has a dragon arm, which allows him to scan enemies for information, unleash pulse energy, and heal his dragon companion. The playable character can also shapeshift into a half-dragon person. When he transforms, his abilities will be significantly strengthened. Players can gain skill points, which can be used to level-up Drew, by defeating enemies and taking care of Thuban like healing and assisting it in battle. Additional skill points will be given to players if players can defeat multiple enemies consecutively. The game also features a four-player co-operative multiplayer mode.
Drew and Thuban find themselves in the cryptic universe of Draconis. Behind its green grass and blue sky, a mystic energy flows through every pieces of this land, The Pulse. The Pulse runs energy through giant mushrooms and tree branches, making them coming to life. Drew and Thuban’s relationship is at the core of Scalebound and is what gives to Scalebound its special flavour. You will get to play Drew, but this doesn’t mean that Thuban will be a distant character or under your complete control. You’ll need to get to know your companion, built a relationship with him and let Thuban to trust you. Only when Thuban will feel confident enough, he will let you ride himself. Thuban is also quite independent, he won’t necessarily follow your orders and you won’t be able to predict his actions.
However, to win the war, feeling is not enough. You’ll need also to arm your mate and upgrade his ability to fight. You can customize Thuban through the orbits that you’ll collect after winning a combat.
Your life and the life of Thuban are inextricably bound. If one dyes, the other dyes as well.
Scalebound will also feature four players co-op. Each player will have his own fearsome companion and will get to fight with the others against Draconis’ evil empire.
