Affordable Deus Ex-Inspired Prosthetic Hands Coming Next Year

With Deus Ex: Mankind Divided arranged for release this August, developer Eidos Montreal has teamed up with robotics start-up Open Bionics and hardware manufacturer Razer to create Deus Ex-inspired prosthetics. Eidos and Open Bionics are working together on the design and creation of the augmentations, which are said to be "affordable" in a press release. Deus Ex protagonist Adam Jensen is an inspiration for the designs of both the Titan Arm and Adam Arm prosthetics.

These prostheses will be available in 2017, in addition to other bionic arms. They'll be available in all sizes for kids and adults--models will be made for both men and women. The two companies will provide the blueprints and designs for the prosthetics royalty free, allowing anyone to access and use them.
"Working with Deus Ex to re-imagine the future of bionic prosthetics has been a fantastic creative process. It has been made even better by seeing people wear the bionic arms and get so much enjoyment out of it," said Open Bionics CEO Joel Gibbard. "This collaboration goes to show how bright the future of bionics is. We feel lucky to have been able to work with the design team at Deus Ex. They've been incredibly generous with their time and ideas throughout this project. We're excited to see this relationship continue to grow."
Razer's contribution is a "Stargazer" webcam and motion tracking technology that will allow people to try on the arm virtually and see how it would work and look if it was actually attached and being used by them. Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said that the company is "excited to contribute to this incredible partnership."
"As the world's most advanced webcam, it is a precise hand tracking solution that allows everyone to experience first-hand the future of augmentations," said Tan.
The prosthetics will release in 2017, but people will be able to see them in person at events like E3 and Gamescom.
