Harley Quinn Spinoff Featuring Other Female Heroes/Villains Reportedly Being Considered

A new movie starring Harley Quinn and a cast of other DC female heroes and villains is under consideration at Warner Bros, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Margot Robbie, who plays Quinn in this August's Suicide Squad, will play the part again in the untitled movie and also produce it, the report said. Batgirl and the Birds of Prey are reportedly two other characters and franchises that could appear in the film. However, Warner Bros. has not officially announced this project and declined to comment on the report.

Some other big-name female heroes and villains at DC include Poison Ivy, Katana, Catwoman, Circe, and Bumblebee. The Hollywood Reporter added that Warner Bros. has found a writer for the project. This person was not named in the report, but it is claimed that a woman is writing the draft.
Sources told the site that Robbie herself got the project off the ground.
"When she got the part for [Suicide Squad], she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible about the character," the site said. "In the process, she fell for DC's female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up."
Robbie got so into character that she bought a tattoo gun and gave Suicide Squad's cast and crew their own "Skwad" tattoos. However, she made a big mistake on one of them. Suicide Squad is directed by Fury's David Ayer, and tells the story of a group of death row supervillains who are employed covertly by the US government to perform dangerous missions, in return for reduced prison sentences. It also stars Jared Leto as Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Jai Courtney as Boomerang.
In March, it was reported that even though the film doesn't open until August, a sequel was already in development. Variety's Justin Kroll said he had "been hearing for awhile the studio wants this sequel up as quickly as possible and that they also want all players back including Ayer." Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
