When it comes to Oculus Rift launch titles, few appear as promising, or stomach-churning, as Adr1ft. From the looks of it so far, it’s Gravity: The Game. An unknown event has blown apart a space station, and it’s up to the player as an amnesia-struck astronaut to piece together events and find a way to get home.
Developer Three One Zero has revealed a new nine-minute trailer, which is one of our most in-depth looks at Adr1ft yet. The entirety of the game seems to be gravity free, which seems to be an immersive fit for the Oculus Rift, if a little disorienting. Oxygen seems to play a significant role in Adr1ft, with the player forced to find oxygen tanks to stay alive. Moving and any form of exertion takes a heavier toll on gravity use, so you’ll have to be careful as you maneuver about.
I must say it looks pretty panic-inducing when the oxygen levels are running low. This effect is only going to be enhanced with a VR headset. So, just Keep reminding yourself that you're not actually dying!
There aren’t many must have VR games in the run up to the Oculus Rift’s launch, but Adr1ft certainly seems like one of the games with the most potential. Early impressions make it out be incredibly involving and the effect of actually being in space is certainly impressive. Definitely one to keep an eye out for. Adr1ft is coming as a launch title for the Oculus Rift early next year. If you don’t fancy using a VR headset, then there will be a standard version coming to Steam, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions later in the year.
